Current plans

In April 2007 we turned our attention to Baltic Wharf, Sutton Harbour, Plymouth where we saw the possibility of developing a berth and the quayside together in support of each other. We proposed a new development with H.M.S. Plymouth as the focus.

After advice and further investigation we turned our focus 100 yards North to Commercial Wharf, which had been investigated as her preferred berth during her last stay in Plymouth during the late 1980’s.

Plymouth City Council already has a new pontoon planned FOR the wharf, construction starting IN the Autumn FOR completion by NEXT Easter AND it’s a modified version of that pontoon that we would like to site H.M.S. Plymouth on.

There are several factors that need to be addressed before we can take the project further, the biggest question is whether we can get permission to dredge the area to form a berth and if we can, what would the cost be? There may also be navigational issues and the cost of retro modifying the new pontoon.

Despite these obstacles and with the help of our supporters, we consider it is worth continuing the research and developing a business plan for the siting of the ship and redevelopment of the quayside.
